my friend is in need of assistance. her mother- and sister-in-law are heading to NYC in April. they may be sticking to Midtown. i know they want to go see a Broadway show - got any tips on cheap tickets?

also, they're insisting on getting hot dogs from a street vendor. would it be safe to stick to the carts in Midtown, or is that dangerous?

any other tips would be appreciated. she'll be checking this post for input. :)

Thanks! It's sad, they're going to where I was born, but I haven't been in ages so I have no clue what to suggest!

NYC local....yeah, you could say that.

Fried...that's a strong word. ;)

Anyhow, dirty water dogs the same in all street carts...I find myself eating one or two on a weekly basis, and I haven't died...yet.

For broadway, check out the TKTS booth in times square -- it sells discounted tickets day-of for shows (shows that were undersold, had cancellations, etc etc: it's really the way to go). http://www.tdf.org/TDF_HomePage.aspx

And, make sure to eat in Hell's Kitchen: some of the best resturants in the city are over that-a-way.

Hot dog carts are ok (as far as hot dogs go), but a bit pricey. But if they're doing it for that "authentic NY experience..."

If they want B'Way tickets cheap, tell'em to hit TKTS at Times Square (big red booth at the northern end. Can't miss it). It's basically a lottery to get random show tickets for a highly reasonable price. I don't know how much choice they have in what they get to see, though.

At 51st street and Broadway, there's the Mars 2112 restaurant, a kooky theme restaurant for the whole family.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.
